Reed diffusers are a firm favourite when it comes to home fragrance. They release a continuous aroma, unlike scented candles, which only work when lit. Here at James and Co Fragrance, we know a thing or two about getting the most from your reed diffuser, and we pride ourselves on creating diffusers that stand the test of time. Many high-street stores offer a variety of scents, but they aren’t exactly cheap, and if they don’t last, it can feel like a waste.
We’ve tested our range in a variety of settings and created 5 top tips for you to follow. We’re confident these will help your diffuser last at least three months.
1. Use All the Reeds Provided
Our reeds are of the highest quality, designed to absorb and distribute fragrance effectively. It can be tempting to use fewer reeds to make the diffuser last longer, but that’s not how it works. Using all the reeds provided ensures maximum scent diffusion. The more reeds absorbing and releasing fragrance, the stronger and more noticeable the scent will be.
2. Keep Your Diffuser Away from Direct Sunlight
It’s tempting to place your diffuser where it looks most attractive but positioning it in direct sunlight speeds up evaporation of the fragrance oil. It will disappear far quicker if it’s exposed to constant heat.
Some people think placing a diffuser on a sunny windowsill will help circulate the scent with the breeze, but that’s not the case. It’s the reeds that diffuse the fragrance, not the breeze. Keeping your diffuser in a cooler, shaded spot will help it last much longer.
3. Flip Your Reeds for a Fresh Burst of Scent
Flipping the reeds is an easy way to give your diffuser a new lease of life. By turning the reeds upside down, you expose the saturated end, providing a fresh burst of fragrance. So when your family and friends walk in, they’ll get the wow factor!
The grey fibre reeds in James and Co Fragrance diffusers are specially designed to absorb and distribute scent evenly, so you don’t need to flip them as often. But when you do, you’ll notice the difference immediately.
4. Move Your Diffuser to a Different Room
Over time we become used to certain smells, a phenomenon known as ‘nose blindness’. If you feel like your diffuser has lost its scent, try moving it to another area of your home. This can be enough to reactivate the scent receptors in your nose - reminding you just how lovely the fragrance is.
5. Use Multiple Diffusers for Maximum Impact
Some people like to match scents to specific rooms - fresh, coastal scents for the bathroom or fruity and herbal blends for the kitchen. Others prefer to use the same fragrance in multiple diffusers throughout the house, creating a signature scent that lingers beautifully in every room.
